Bad breath is a symptom in which a noticeably unpleasant breath odor is present.  It can be embarrassing and in some cases may even cause anxiety. Products such as toothpaste, mouthwash and other oral hygiene products frequently are only temporary measures. They don’t address the cause of the problem.

Certain foods, health conditions and habits are among the causes of bad breath. In many cases, you can improve bad breath with consistent proper dental hygiene.

Causes: Most causes of bad breath start in the mouth and include the following potential causes:

  2. Dry mouth
  3. Oral infections
  4. Certain foods
  5. Tobacco smoking
  6. Poor oral hygiene


The following home remedies may help you manage bad breath, however, if these do not provide symptom relief, you should consult your dentist or physician.

  1. Brush your teeth after every meal
  2. Floss regularly
  3. Get gum/oral infections treated
  4. Brush your tongue
  5. Drink water regularly
  6. Change your toothbrush regularly
