Road Traffic Accident
Mr RH a manager in a telecommunications company was involved in a road traffic accident in Abuja at about 12pm in the afternoon. He was rushed to hospital in Abuja where he was found to have sustained several fractures including a single open fracture. He asked to be flown to Lagos and if necessary, then on to London for treatment.
We liaised with his doctors in Abuja and his son in Lagos who both agreed that this request was appropriate. After assessment by our own doctors, he was deemed unfit for commercial transfer due to the extent of his injuries. He was therefore flown to Lagos by helicopter that afternoon accompanied by a doctor.
He was treated for his injuries in Lagos and transfer to London was not required.
Traumatic Injury at Work
Mr OP an expatriate worker sustained a traumatic injury at work in Imo State, we decided together with his company doctor and his family in the UK, that because of the nature of his injury it was best to repatriate him back to England. This was organised rapidly, he was repatriated back to the UK with a critical care nurse and a doctor.
He made a good recovery.
Congenital Illness
Miss LJ a 9 year old girl with a congenital illness was being treated conservatively in Lagos. However, though she remained stable, it was obvious she would need surgery. We discussed with her family, with her doctors in Lagos and her doctors in the UK. It was decided that she would be safe to fly on a commercial flight with a physician escort.
She went on to have surgery in London and is back at school in Lagos.
